For #DiabetesAwarenessMonth we (#diabeteschat) have been posting a new question everyday and today is Day 15 and today's question is:
Do you/how often do you finger prick?
What Blood Glucose Meters do you have?
Do they link it up to any of your apps?
Do you finger prick to help tech calibaration or to check keyones, or when your levels are dropping or when you are having a hypo?
Feel free to share your experiences in the comments below; where you feel comfortable to do so, and ask any questions if you have any.
I wear freestyle libre CGM linked to an app on my phone. I use finger prick test if how I am feeling differs from my CGM reading.
I sometimes check before food if there's a rise in bloods just to check the CGM is on point before dosing for the food incase theres a huge correction that's not needed, I find it's good to callerbrate the dex com occasionally like this.
I also finger prick at night before giving any corrections, I also notice the compression lows at night tend to have big gaps or dropping quite fast on the graph so when I see that I particulary check.
I love what Tom M says about checking before treating during the night, if i'm not too tired it's much better to check than treat when it's not needed to stop high bloods later on.
I'm more trusting of the cgm now than I was at the start, I used to second question everything as times gone on i'm trusting the tech more.
When intuitively something feels off with CGM. If there is an unexplained high I will compare finger prick to CGM. I always check night time hypo's mostly because of compression hypo. This is when the CGM signals low blood sugar but the reading is false and has only occurred because of pressure on the sensor. Usually because it's been laid on whilst sleeping. I have treated what I thought were hypo's before which of course ended in high blood sugar. CGM's really do help reduce inconvenient finger pricking. 👌🏻
